NIXSY IS A TIER-FOCUSED BREEDING GAME
Nixsy is designed as a long-term breeding game, not a gatcha and not a system built around instant gratification. The challenge is in building and refining your bloodlines, making deliberate breeding choices, working your way through the Tiers, and ultimately unlocking and creating new traits.
This is very much an old-school breedable at heart, but with modern mechanics and Animesh.
It rewards planning, patience and understanding how the breeding system works rather than simply producing baby after baby and hoping for an instant rare.
Most importantly, focus on Tiers, not Generations. Generations do not represent progression in Nixsy and, in themselves, have no real meaning within the breeding game. A G10 is not automatically more advanced or valuable than a G6 simply because its generation number is higher. Tier progression is what matters.
Your goal is to build the right lines, make the right breeding decisions and progress through the Tier system. That journey, and the challenge of eventually producing and combining the traits you have worked to unlock, is the game.
So don't be discouraged if it feels slower than breedables designed around quick wins. Nixsy is intended to be something you build over time, and that is where the biggest and most valuable achievement comes from.
HOW TO DO EVERYTHING – WELL ALMOST EVERYTHING – NO SPOILERS!
Q: What is unlocking?
A: Unlocking is when you unlock a brand new, never before seen trait. Such as a new eye, coat, ear, tail or species.
Q: What is passing a trait?
A: Passing a trait is an offspring inheriting a shown or hidden trait from a parent. For example, when an LE or an LE DOS passes a hidden trait. Or when a starter passes its shown traits such as a Slate coat to its offspring.
Q: Is it possible for the same exact trait to be unlocked more than once?
A: Yes
Q: How do you unlock new traits?
A: To unlock new traits, you need to have every spot in both pets’ trees filled with the same tier for the trait you are trying to unlock. So, when you look at the tree for both pets you wish to breed, every spot in both visible trees needs to be filled with the same level tier. So when those 2 pets breed, they will be rolling for T1 traits.

Q: What does rolling for T1 traits mean?
A: Rolling just means the pets are eligible to make a T1 trait, so the server rolls to see if they successfully made a T1 trait, then which T1 trait it is.
Q: What are considered traits in Nixsy?
A: Traits are eyes, coat, ear, tail, and species.
Q: Can mixed trees unlock new traits?
A: Yes, but not all traits. Each trait is evaluated individually, so if all coats are a Tier 0 (T0) on the tree and the tree is full, that pet, when paired with a similar tree can roll for T1's. The same thing applies to eyes, ears and tails. Mixed species trees CANNOT roll for a new species.
Examples of mixed trees unlocking traits:

Q: Did the pineapple eyes in the above tree unlock the pineapple coat?
A: No, the eye cannot produce the matching coat. That is just a coincidence. Reptiles did not affect this tree either, because all the eyes, coats, tails and ears are still T0. The only restriction is that it cannot unlock a T1 species.
Q: What is a mixed tree?
A: A mixed tree is any tree that has one or more traits on it, including different species. At this point a tree of all T0 traits with different species is a mixed tree.
Example of a mixed tree:

https://nixsybreedables.com/family-tree/IHVQNNPU36
Q: What if all my trees are mixed?
A: You can still unlock coats, eyes, ears and tails at this point with those trees, as long as all the places in the tree are filled with the same level tier for that trait. The system is quite forgiving in that respect, so having mixed trees does not mean you are behind or unable to continue progressing. However, I would suggest that from this point onwards, you start working towards making your trees pure. Pure trees become extra important as we hit Tier 2 (T2) so you still have time to clean those trees.
Q: How do I make a mixed tree pure?
A: If you have a mixed tree, like this one: https://nixsybreedables.com/family-tree/H4QULRPMZ6, the first thing to do is decide which species you want the tree to produce, and then choose a mate based on that goal.
For example, if you want to turn this into an Avian tree, you would breed Feline G5 H to an Avian mate. From their offspring, you would keep the Avian babies and breed those together. From that point onwards, you continue selecting and breeding Avian offspring only until eventually the tree becomes completely Avian.
You might look at the tree and think, "But wait, there are Cervids at the top of the tree!" That's okay. Once Feline G5 H produces her first baby, those Cervids will no longer appear in that baby's tree, so we don't need to worry too much about them.
If Feline G5 H produces a Cervid baby, you have two choices: either find that baby a Cervid mate and work on a Cervid line separately or simply don't breed that baby.
Another important thing about this particular tree: you could actually work towards creating both a pure Feline tree and a pure Avian tree at the same time, assuming you can get a pair of Feline babies and a pair of Avian babies from Feline G5 H and her Avian mate.
You would then breed the Feline pair together for your Feline line and the Avian pair together for your Avian line.
Alternatively, you could breed Feline G5 H to an Avian until you have produced a pair of Avian babies. Once you have your Avian pair, switch her to a Feline mate and work towards producing a pair of Feline babies. You would then have two separate lines to continue working with: one Avian and one Feline.
Q: Can pure trees unlock new traits?
A: Yes, a pure tree can roll to unlock all traits if the tree has every space full of the same level tier for the trait you wish to produce and is breed with a similarly eligible pet.

https://nixsybreedables.com/family-tree/7DZF93D2K0
Q: What is a pure tree?
A: A pure tree is any tree that has every trait level the same for any given trait you are trying to unlock. For example, if you wish to unlock a T2 coat, regardless of the colour of that coat, they all need to be T1. So, you could have a tree with pure cervid, all T1 coats of any colour as long as the tier number next to them is the same. So, every coat does not need to be white. The purity of a tree pertains to the tier level of each trait not the species, until we arrive at unlocking T2 traits. At that point and going forward it becomes species specific for the ears and the tail.
Example of pure trees:

https://nixsybreedables.com/family-tree/B092TSQDDB
EYES AND COATS ARE UNIVERSAL – THEY CAN TRANSFER BETWEEN SPECIES!
Q: Can you unlock something with an LE in the tree?
A: Yes, an LE in the tree does not disqualify you from unlocking new traits, neither does a passed trait such as a Hidden Gold coat. The coats that are passing from LEs are all (T0) and behave like any other (T0) coat.
Example of a mixed tree with LE's on it unlocking a new trait:
https://nixsybreedables.com/family-tree/ZOHYMYA3QB
Q: Can a tree be pure for only some traits?
A: Yes
Examples of trees with only some traits pure; Not pure for species: https://nixsybreedables.com/family-tree/H4QULRPMZ6 This tree can still roll for eyes, coat, ears and tail.
Not pure for eyes: https://nixsybreedables.com/family-tree/2IVPR4PTL1 This tree already has T1 eyes, so it can no longer roll for any additional T1 eye traits. It can, however, still pass its existing T1 Orange Eyes. Once an entire tree has been filled with T1 Orange Eyes, the eye line will be pure at T1 and it can then begin rolling for T2 eyes. The presence of T1 eyes only affects the eye trait category, so this tree can still roll for other T1 traits, such as coats, ears or tails.
Q; Why can those mixed trees still roll for T1?
A: If you look at the number next to each trait in the family tree, you will see (0), which means that trait is Tier 0. The actual colour doesn't matter; it is the Tier number that matters.
For coats, White, Cream, Brown, Chestnut, Grey, Black, Sage and Slate are all T0 coats, along with any hidden LE coats that are also T0. This means they all qualify together as Tier 0 when determining whether the tree can roll for a T1 coat.
The same applies to eyes. White, Cream, Brown, Chestnut, Grey, Black, Sage and Slate eyes are all T0 eyes, along with any hidden LE eyes that are T0. They do not all need to be the same colour; they simply need to be the same Tier.
Species are the exception. To unlock a T1 species, it is not enough for every species in the tree to simply be T0. The species itself must be pure, meaning the required tree needs to contain the same species throughout.
Q: What comes after T1 and what does T1 mean?
A: T1 means Tier 1. All starters and LEs are Tier 0. After Tier 1 we go to Tier 2, then Tier 3 and so on.
Q: Am I required to have T1?
A: If you want to progress through the Unlockable traits, yes. Tiers are like a ladder, T0 is the ground the ladder sits on, the first step is Tier 1, the second step is Tier 2. You can’t just skip from Tier 0 to Tier 2, just as you can’t skip from the ground to step 2 or 3 or 5.
Q: Can you pass traits from one species to another?
A: Yes, eyes and coats can be passed to another species. Coats are harder to pass between species, but it does happen and is very possible. Eyes pass between species fairly easily. Ears and Tails DO NOT pass between species. So, a T1 tail on a feline is not going to produce a T1 tail on a Bovine.
Q: Can we make new species?
A: Yes, there are many new species to be found.
Q: How do I make a new species?
A: By breeding pure species trees together.
Q: Why haven’t I found a new T1 trait yet?
A: Either you don’t have your trees full, or you just haven’t hit that lucky roll.
Q: How will I know if I have a T1 trait?
A: You can go to your My Pets page on the website and look at the Tier Filter. If you see anything currently other, then T0 then you have a T1. You can select T1 and hit apply to see what T1 you have. You can of course always just check your babies as well in-world.
Example: https://gyazo.com/67d86e5a95cc97847a652474b9ceb872
Q: A specific trait won’t pass. How do I make it pass?
A: There is never a guarantee that a specific trait will pass, but you can increase your chances by strengthening that trait within the family tree. One way to do this is through back breeding, which is a form of line breeding.
For example:
Pet A + Pet B → Baby 1 and Baby 2
Baby 1 + Baby 2 → Baby 3
Baby 3 + Pet A or Pet B → next offspring
Choose whichever original parent, Pet A or Pet B, has the trait you are trying to strengthen, and breed Baby 3 back to that pet.
What you are doing is getting the desired trait into more than one place within the family tree. The more places that trait appears in the genetics behind your breeding pair, the stronger its presence in the line becomes, increasing your chances of seeing it pass.
It is still never guaranteed. Genetics always involve an element of chance, but line breeding and back breeding allow you to deliberately build and strengthen the traits you want rather than simply hoping they pass.
Q: What is a formula?
A: A formula is when you breed pets with 2 specific traits together to try to produce a new trait. This will be like challenges, recipes or dares in other breedables. When these formulas are activated, the community will be informed via a notice in the main group and on discord.
Q: What do I do with my Gen 1 and 2 pets? Do I need to keep them breeding?
A: No, you don’t need to keep Gen 1 and 2 pets breeding unless you want too. Any pets you no longer want to breed you can either sell or send to the forest. Keep in mind, most people will not be interested buying a gen 1 or gen 2 at this point, unless it is an LE or LE DOS, an SE or SE DOS or needed for a formula. It is highly unlikely anyone will be interested in your Gen 2 Canine from two starter parents or your Gen 1 starter.
Q: What do we get for sending pets to the forest?
A: You get 50 forest points per pet whether alive/live pet or unborn/baby/offspring.
Q: What do we do with forest points?
A: You can use points to buy things from the points board.
Q: What will be on the points board?
A: There will be an LE which will be changed frequently, other rotating items such treats, or friend forever potions and from time to time, also high value items that cannot be found anywhere else.
LET’S TALK ABOUT LE’s
LE's are generally treated as a wild card when rolling to unlock something, although if your tree has more than 40% actual LE's, (not DOS or hidden traits), then there is a penalty applied to make unlocking fairer. To be very clear, that penalty is only in place if you have more than 14 LE's in the tree when both parents’ trees are combined. So, no one is in danger of doing this by accident. It is also not impossible to unlock something with these LE heavy trees, it is just harder.
Q: What is a Wild Card, and does it affect tree purity?
A: A Wild Card acts as a placeholder in the family tree. It does not count as a trait either for or against the purity of the tree, with one important exception: species.
For example, if you have a full tree of T1 coats with a single LE Wild Card in one position, that Wild Card will not prevent the system from considering the coat tree pure. It is essentially ignored when the system checks the Tier of that trait.
Species work differently. Species require actual species purity, so a Wild Card of another species can block a species unlock. For example, if your tree is otherwise entirely T1 Cervid, but there is one Canine LE Wild Card somewhere in the tree, the system will block species unlocking only.
That Canine LE does not make the whole tree impure for everything else. It only affects the species purity check. Your coats, eyes, ears and tails are still assessed separately according to their own Tiers.
In short: Wild Cards are neutral placeholders for trait purity, but not for species purity.
Q: Why even allow mixed breeding if it does nothing?
A: Mixed breeding absolutely does have a purpose. It is part of future Nixsy formulas, and mixed-species breeding is already very useful for passing traits such as coats and eyes between species. It will become even more important as T1 pets become the majority of the breeding population.
The key is that mixed breeding is intended to be logical and planned, rather than random. For example, breeding a pure Bovine line with a pure Canine line and deliberately continuing to work those two species together is logical mixed breeding.
Likewise, breeding two matching 50% Bovine / 50% Canine trees together is also logical mixed breeding.
Simply having a tree containing five or more different species is not really the intended use. While that tree is technically "mixed", it does not offer the same breeding advantages as deliberately working with a planned combination of species, and it makes achieving predictable results much more difficult.
At this time, we highly recommend breeding towards purity to give yourself the best chances of unlocking traits with every breeding. This is because each trait category is considered separately by the system. The more trait categories that qualify as pure on your tree, the more opportunities that breeding has to roll for an unlock.
A tree that qualifies as pure for eyes, coat, ears, tail and species gets five separate rolls on every breeding:
1 roll for Eyes
1 roll for Coat
1 roll for Ears
1 roll for Tail
1 roll for Species
So mixed breeding isn't "doing nothing". It has specific uses, particularly for moving traits between species and for future breeding formulas. However, planned breeding and building purity into your lines gives you the greatest number of opportunities to unlock new traits.
